mommy milestones

Let’s be honest – at some point, we all signed up for some sort of weekly update on our child’s growth and development. I don’t read many of these emails anymore, but there was a time when I was focused on childhood milestones and how my kids were meeting them.

But today I want to talk about a few other milestones that you won’t find in those email updates: the universal mommy milestones…

Zombie status

Every mom reaches a point where the inevitable sleep-deprivation makes her do crazy things. I’m sure you’ve heard (or done) it all, but here’s a few I’ll admit to…

  • Finished all 6 seasons of Downton Abbey in a ridiculously small period of time
  • Seriously considered drinking coffee at 1am when the baby just wouldn’t sleep
  • Wondered if the crib would hold the little and me

Germaphobe – mmm, never mind…

Remember the first time that binkie hit the ground? You probably threw it away and bought a new one. Now? Maybe we shouldn’t even talk about it or I might start to have some mommy-guilt. Or not… I certainly don’t have time to boil a pot of water to sterilize this paci everytime!

Top knot

Listen, I make sure that I get dressed (leggings anyone?) and slap some of my favorite BB cream on every day. My hair? That’s another story. Mine is too short for a top knot, otherwise – it would be my go-to style. For now I’m wearing a pony and headband. (I’ll bet you’re rocking something similar at this very moment!)

Lukewarm Coffee for the win

We all love hot coffee and/or iced coffee, but somehow I always end up with a coffee temperature somewhere in between. Oh well, though. It’s still caffeine, and that’s the whole point, right?

A love/hate relationship with shopping

When it’s a kid-free trip, even the grocery store feels like vacation to all of us mamas! Otherwise, I’ll keep my Amazon Prime membership active – thank you very much! (Mom hack: Join Amazon Family 30-Day Free Trial to order diapers at a discount and have them shipped straight to your door every month. It has been awesome for us!)

Death by OCD

Seriously. Don’t try. Just don’t. You’ll only end up following your toddler around the house and cleaning up everything in their wake all. day. long. I wouldn’t know anything about this of course… ha!

Never say never

Remember all of those things you said you’d never do with your child? I think I broke all of my own rules by the time my youngest was 2 weeks old. Yup. Oh well… sanity is more important than silly, made-up rules anyways.

What am I forgetting? There’s tons of mommy milestones out there and I think I’ve just barely scratched the surface! Add some of your ideas below!

Kudos to all of us mommys who are rocking mamahood. In fact check out my post about that here! It’s tough work, but someone has to do it, and I wouldn’t want any other job!

  1. This is all so true! I was growing out a pixie cut when my son was born so I totally remember the struggle of wanting to pull it back because it was such a hot mess but it not being long enough to 😂 Yes to the OCD, and to the rule breaking! Most humbling blessing of my life was becoming a mother. You nailed it mama 😘

  2. Great list! I’ve definitely contemplatied if I could lay down in the crib with my little. And I’ve been in zombie status at least a year 😂

  3. I know that we always promise ourselves that when we are parents we will be different, only to find there was some method to their madness. Ah well.
